Dixie Chicks are back, baby!

I am a totally Dixie Chicks fan. It all started when I went to that karaoke bar with Maggie and Ron and she played me their first album in the car the whole way there. I went out and got all their albums from the library the next day and have been a totally fan every since. I think I like them because they somehow manage to sing a-typical country music while making fun of the genre and the people who listen to it at the same time. That and their harmony is TIGHT!

They have a new single out (awesome) and another new song that you can preview on Amazon (which I also really like) and it seems like their new album is going to be the best yet.

A lot of people are up in arms about the fact that they have a new CD at all. Many Republicans would have preferred that they roll over and die. See, about a month or two before the rest of the world realized what an idiot Bush was, the Dixie Chicks made the mistake of making a rather harmless comment about our WMD delusional commander in chief. While in concert out of the US, one of the Chicks apologized for the US’s behavior as of late and said, “I’m a little embarrassed that the president is from Texas, actually.”

Now, never mind that fact that every late night television host has said much worse about W and that this comment was mainly said in jest, the base of the country music listening audience who were Bush supporters looked up from having sex with their siblings just long enough to flip out that they were unpatriotic and un-American. The Dixie Chicks got death threats and they held burnings of their CDs and everyone said they would never work in this town again.

Of course, now that the few stubborn stalwarts who still think Iraq has something to do with 9/11 are a very small minority as, thankfully, the rest of the world realized what was actually going on and Bush’s approval rating has tanked like a cement rubber ducky, it was only a matter of time before they had a royal comeback. Rolling Stone said in their review of the CD something to the effect that all of the fools who overreacted to their comment should purchase this CD as their penance.

Its funny how the few remaining Fox News junkies trash them in the new Amazon forums section. (These are the same people who go onto Brokeback Mountain’s page and trash the movie because of the “wrongness” of being gay.) I just wonder what kind of life you live when the best use of your time is to go onto the site of a band who once made one small comment you didn’t agree with and then make 5 year old personal attacks of the fans of said band such as saying they are stupid and all gay (these are actual things posted there) all of which has nothing to do with the music they play. If their music is good, who the heck cares what they think about Bushyboy.

I enjoyed this comments from Amazon: “Thank god for GWB! I am so glad that George Bush is a uniter and not a divider! When that damn Clinton was President, we didn’t get to argue and fight over MUSICIANS and every little tiny thing like we do now. We didn’t get to say “You’re UNAMERICAN!” “No, you’re the one that’s Unamerican!” Just wish those damn people over in Iraqistan could be as united as us. Yeeeee Haaawww!”

I think that sums the whole thing up nicely. Anyway, I will definitely be adding this CD to my cart so that I can qualify for free shipping on the new Lemony Snicket books….
