feeling nostalgic

Published by Hillary DePiano under Miscellaneous

Steve and I were unpacking the garage last night and I found a tin with every note anyone ever wrote to me in high school. I, sadly, threw them all out, but I decided to browse through my yearbook. This, naturally made me even more nostalgic so, today, I googled a bunch of random high school people to see where the hell they are these days.

(If you are one of the many lovely high school people I keep in touch with, I beg you not to be insulted that you did not make this list. I was just googling people I forgot existed until I saw them in the yearbook and wondered what they heck they have been up to.)

Here are some of my findings:

  • Chris Bray is apparently now Christine Iannucci
  • Joe Hamway went to Australia (and is apparently rocking hobbit hair)
  • Stacey Gutkowski apparently works with Children’s Poverty or something
  • Vicki Cabalar is a lawyer in Rahway, NJ which is where I just left a fool job! Her, I will actually look up and try to hang out with.
  • Ron Ceglia has apparently done very little other than marry someone named Alexis. Sadly for Alexis, he is much less cute than he once was and looks like how one of the Beatles would have looked had they been encased in ice for many years. Hopefully, she will be able to get him to look fix him up some now that they are married.

As for high school people I actually already know are alive and kicking, you can actually find most of them in my MySpace profile.

(While I was at this, I actually Googled myself. You know what comes up as the top image result? This horribly ugly photo of me from this press article. Ew.)

How Amazon lost my sale. . .

Published by Hillary DePiano under Uncategorized

I love Amazon. I really do. I purchase pretty much everything there because shipping is usually always free and they don’t change tax. No to mention that their prices are good to. Love Amazon.

However, they just lost my sale on the following three items:

I pre-ordered all three of these a while ago. Dixie Chicks came out a while ago, one of the books comes out in September and the other in October. I have always pre-ordered from Amazon in the past and, even when I selected that “group my shipments in as few orders as possible” they still shipped pre-orders as they came in.

I figured that maybe they would wait until at least 2 of the items were out but, according to my order history, they intended to wait until 9/24 (11 days after the last item was released) to ship my entire order to me.

Not acceptable. I pre-ordered these items because I was looking forward to getting them and didn’t want to run out to the store the day they came out. I don’t mind if there is a few day delay for shipping before I get it, but to make me wait months is just stupid.

I think they really should rethink this change in policy.

Anyway, excited about the new Lemony Snicket books and damned if I was going to wait until the end of Sept to read them, I decided to see what Overstock charged. Even with $2.95 shipping, these same three items were discounted enough that it was actually a few cents cheaper to order all three of them from Overstock AND they already put the Dixie Chicks CD in the mail for me and will ship the others as they come in.

Bad form on this one, Amazon. Overstock won this round.

chi explosion

Published by Hillary DePiano under Miscellaneous

My cousin Rita gave me these tranquility candles a while ago and I was just grooving with my favorite, Cucumber Mint, which is supposed to refresh. I was just getting my chi in line and feeling all tranquil when I here a sudden loud noise and the candle explodes!

The glass outer casing cracks all the way around and luckily I was able to blow out the candle before I set the house on fire and the only wax that spilled was easy to clean up, but I certainly feel much less tranquil than I did before I lit that darn thing.
