12/50 The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander
The Book of Three (The Chronicles of Prydain)
For the record, I was really trying to mix up my genres a little more. The library, however, gave me all the fantasy books I requested in a row which is why it’s like fantasy explosion these last few. I have 2 non-fiction books and a book on vampires coming, I swear. Though this book has a sequel that is due back next week so I’ll have to read that first. Sorry.
Yeah, so I went to the library just to wander around a pick a book solely on its cover. I walked around for a good hour and did not find a single thing that looked interesting.
On my way out, I walked through the fantasy section and stopped short. The Black Caldron was the title of the book that caught my eye. I saw that Disney movie in the 80’s and never since then (though I think it was just released to DVD very recently). I don’t even remember what it’s about besides some kind of magic pig. So I take the book out along with Bridge to Terabithia.
Once I get home, I read the back of the book and Caldron is actually the second book in a series. The first book is The Book of Three which I had to go back to the library to get. (If you are going to do something, might as well do it right.)
What’s really weird, though, is that while waiting for this book, I read Terabithia which totally references The Book of Three. I find that to be a very weird coincidence, esp since I hadn’t even thought about The Black Caldron since the movie came out in the 80’s until I picked the book up. Weird.
Yeah, so The Book of Three was cute but I think its only half the story until I finish The Black Caldron so I will get back to you once I finish 13/50. I don’t remember the movie at all but I think the movie is both books smashed into one because I remember parts of the story already. It’s apparently a 6 books series all told but I am going to take a break after #2 and read some other stuff.
