30/50 The Castle of Llyr by Lloyd Alexander

The Castle of Llyr (The Chronicles of Prydain)

30 / 50 books. 60% done!

Continuing my efforts to retroactively appreciate Lloyd Alexander (who passed away earlier this year) I decided to finish up his award winning Chronicles of Prydain series (which contained The Black Cauldron, as you may recall). This book was good. My only frustration with this series is that there is no build up, we usually start right in the middle of things, and there is a bit of a contrived feel to how we always re-meet fan favorite characters in each book. That said, I intend to finish the series up anyway.

history repeats iteself

"We have currently a built-in allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information. Our mass media reflect this. But unless we get up off our fat surpluses and recognize that television in the main is being used to distract, delude, amuse, and insulate us, then television and those who finance it, those who look at it, and those who work at it, may see a totally different picture too late." -Good Night, And Good Luck

the all nighter

Published by Hillary DePiano under Miscellaneous

you know every word that you need to write
it’s all planned out in your head
but there are so many words and sleep looks so far away
the words were better a few hours ago

the end is in sight
"almost done" you self-promise again and again
then you remember about that other thing
ok, that and then I’m really almost done

in the end, too tired to keep working
you surrender
the done-ness remaining almost for another night
the defeat is bitter with the end so close in sight
