I don’t know whether there’s a God or not. Nobody does, no matter what they say. I think it’s perfectly possible to explain how the universe came about without bringing God into it, but I don’t know everything, and there may well be a God somewhere, hiding away.
Actually, if he is keeping out of sight, it’s because he’s ashamed of his followers and all the cruelty and ignorance they’re responsible for promoting in his name. If I were him, I’d want nothing to do with them. -Phillip Pullman, author of the Dark Materials series on which The Golden Compass is based
If you are interested in truth instead of hysterical ranting of people who have never read the series nor seen the movie, I have read all of these books and can give an informed opinion. I know uninformed hysteria is all the rage, but I just wanted to offer.
The masses are annoying me lately, have you noticed?
I’m not allowed, in my business and daily life, to say "Merry Christmas" but I not have to say "Happy Holidays!" OK, fine, except that this has neutered me to the point that I even say this to my family which is NOT COOL. It’s Christmas, people, and I want it to be freaking Merry for you. Why the hell can’t I say it? Even if the person I am talking to is Jewish, they are still going to be doing something on Christmas day and I don’t see why I cannot wish that its merry for them. Merry is a pleasant state of being! It’s not like I am wishing them the plague!
If someone else is celebrating a birthday, they are allowed to celebrate it without fear of offending everyone else not having a birthday that day. Why is Christmas not the same? If I am celebrating a holiday, I don’t see why my celebrating it and decorating for it and being merry about it has anything to do with you. You can, in turn, celebrate your holiday and I will not give you grief. I don’t get a piece of, say, National Coming Out Day or Rosh HaShanah , but I don’t begrudge anyone their right to celebrate it. Why are other religions allowed to muscle in and tell us how we are allowed to celebrate?
Why is our culture so hypersensitive? If Imus says something stupid, he shouldn’t be fired over it. If you don’t like what he said, don’t listen to his show. You are supposed to be able to say whatever you want, that is the whole point of America. It’s like freedom of speech is going backwards where suddenly we have to limit what everyone says in the event that it might offend someone. Well, some groups, anyway. Diss white people, gays or fat people all you want and no one will say anything, right Donald Trump? I am sick of this backwards freedom of speech. "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to your death your right to say it." -I am not going to site this quote because everyone thinks Voltaire said it but he didn’t so its too much drama
Santa Clause says Ho Ho Ho, damn it. He does not say Ha Ha Ha. If your child immediately thinks of a prostitute when they hear the word "Ho" you have much deeper issues than are Santa’s problem. Learn to parent and leave Kris Kringle alone!
If someone were to come up to me and say "Ha Ha Ha" to my face in the same manner as one would say the Ho trifecta, I would consider that person to be unhinged. Seriously, just try to say that outloud and not sound insane. The Joker does not equal holiday joy.
