No No Nanette for me

“Then there’s [Rosie] O’Donnell, who has the script’s drollest lines and knows precisely how to land them. For much of the time she’s pushing a recalcitrant Hoover around, and it becomes a metaphor for her ability to hoover up the yuks. Plus, she taps like a demon. (Eat your heart, Barbara Walters!)” -from TheaterMania.com

I find the phrase “taps like a demon” to be hilarious. I also wonder if it is a very geeky reference to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode which did, in fact, feature a demon who sort of tapped.

I wanted to see No No Nanette for three big reasons (no pun intended).

The first is because Rosie is in it and I am bitter that when I went to see The Rosie O’Donnell Show she was not there and that my brother has gotten to see her in Fiddler on the Roof and I did not.

The second is because Sandy Duncan is in it which, as any My Little Pony fan worth their salt knows, is the voice of Firefly and was also on the Muppet show. So she is a double draw right there.

The third reason is that, with a coupon I got in the mail, it was only $20 and, heck, who doesn’t jump at a chance to see cheap theatre?

But sadly, as is likely to happen with a week long only run, $20 a seat tickets and a promise from Rosie on her blog to stay and sign autographs until everyone who wants one has one and I figured I wouldn’t get near it. Sadly, it is pretty much sold out and I am slightly bummed. I’m not, like, suicidal or anything, but I think it would have been fun to see.

I am mollified, however, by the buzz that it may go to Broadway and the fact that Rosie keeps posting little videos of various numbers on her blog. I figure by the end of the week she will have posted enough snippets that I will feel like I have seen the whole thing.

This whole routine, however, has sought to remind me how much I enjoy theatre and how I really ought to make an effort to go to more shows. Heck, maybe I’ll even audition for something. Stranger things have happened. . .
