Watch out, us Hillary-s are going to take over the world. . .

So I was at the DMV yesterday and the lady renewing my registration takes my license and laughs and says, “Hey! We have the same name!”

Without missing a single beat or even taking 2 seconds to think about it, I reply, “You’re also a DePiano?” Now this may see incredibly stupid to you but, as I have met other DePiano’s (granted, I am related to them) and have only ever met one other Hillary in my entire life and that girl didn’t even spell it the same way as me, this was my gut reaction.

But of course, the lady meant her first name and when I looked at her nametag, sure enough, I was in the presense of another Hillary. So, as she is doing my paperwork, I make small talk and tell her that she is only the second Hillary I have ever met in my life. (I am going to discount Hillary Clinton, Hilary Swank and Hilary Duff as they are not real people in my mind as I have never met them. That and Swank and Duff are 1-L losers. At least Clinton has the respect to spell it right.)

She glances around her as if afraid of someone overhearing and whispers, “Oh, there are a whole lot of them coming through here. You’d be surprised. All young, too. And they spell it different, not like you and I.” It was very conspiratorial as if she and I were the sole soldiers left to fight for the preservation of the name of Hillary who had to steal ourselves to defend against the oncoming horde of Hilarie, Hilaree and Hilarys coming up.

As a side note, typing that just now, Hilary with one “l” which is incidentally, I was told my entire life, the way you spell it when it is a boy’s name, takes much less time to write out. I wonder how much more free time I would have in my life if my mom had just gotten lazy and trimmed off an “l.”
