(I hope you all have appreciated the restraint I have shown in not blogging about the election. It has taken a lot of effort, you should know, because this election is stressing me to the point of vomit. I am hoping you will all allow me this little rant.)

You know, policies and political platforms aside, Obama is making a lot of big mistakes this campaign and McCain is doing a lot of stuff very right.

I still don’t like either of them, though. I always used to wonder who the hell those undecided people were and I am totally one of them now which is weird. It’s not that I like both and cannot decide which one I like better. It’s that I hate both and don’t know which one I hate less. I think the debates are really going to make a huge difference to me this year in who to decide to vote for.

I liked this quote: “Obama is inexperienced, fluffy and arrogant. I can’t back that.” -Lisa Sisinni

That is actually exactly how I am feeling but I still don’t like a lot of what McCain is saying so I’m not going to go so far as to say I won’t back him in the end because it’s a long road to November. But the inexperienced, fluffy and arrogant is SPOT ON and amuses me. But, who knows, inexperience might be what we need for real change and arrogance is just part of the game, I guess. But he is still very unlikable. Oh, I don’t know, as you can probably tell. :-)

McCain picking a very conservative but female VP is incredibly brilliant. Like the man or not, what better way to play to all the ticked off Hillary Clinton supporters who had to watch all this Obama-rah-rah, Hillary and Bill have to kiss his butt fest when, I’m sorry Obama-lovers, but he has been an arrogant unlikable jerk, then for McCain to spend a week basically kissing up to HRC in ads and then pick a female VP. Now suddenly the Obama campaign’s trump card of “Yeah, but we are making history” has been negated by the fact that so is McCain’s campaign and the disgruntled women are more likely than ever to vote for McCain not based on policies but just because there is a woman involved. I am not saying this is a good way to go about voting, but it’s a total fact.

On the same coin, the ultra-conservatives who were ticked that McCain wasn’t conservative enough will love Sarah Palin. Also a plus, she is young to play against people who think McCain is too old. Smart, smart. Though some say her age and inexperience is a minus. Though I wonder if those people are looking at Obama as they say that going, “Oh, wait. . . “

He may have just won the election on his VP pick which you have to admire no matter how you feel about the guy himself.

There were rumors for a while amidst the eBay community that McCain might pick Meg Whitman (former president of eBay) as his VP and that is why she had stepped down from her post at eBay. They are apparently buddies in real life and she is working on his campaign. When I read this, my mind jumped right past the “female VP” part and went around for a week quipping, “If only McCain would pick Hillary as his VP. They are buddies too and THAT would make for an interesting election.” (I know that would never happen on this version of earth but, seriously, it would make good TV. The news pundit’s heads would have exploded!)

It wasn’t until I read the news about his pick this morning that I realized what a masterful stroke picking a female VP was. For the conservative types, her resume fits the bill. For the Hillary supporters, her gender fits the bill. And for people who already don’t like Obama, she is a nice looking lady with a son who is a soldier who adds a little more likability to the McCain train. McCain seems like he is probably a nice guy but, let’s be honest, he looks like Skeletor after he gave up on He-Man and really let himself go. Though, I must confess, I saw a picture of him when he was young and he was a total hottie! So he has that going for him.

It’s times like this that we can only turn to the sage words of my mother:

“I don’t know about McCain. He’s going to creep up on us like an old creeper.” -Mom

Whatever that means, Mom, I am sure you are right.
