NaNoWriMo Status: sick, tired but past 21k, people!
So, yeah, remember how everyone was all “OMG, you’re so far ahead” last week? Well at the start of today I was a few hundred words *behind* where I should have been. So the lesson is, don’t count your words before they are hatched or something.
I’m a little annoyed that I squandered my lead already, I was hoping it would last me a bit more into the month but, never the less, chugging along. I end today a mere 1,272 ahead so I could really use a big chunk of writing tomorrow to get me properly ahead. I’m only 3,724 words away from the halfway point and that is about how many words I wrote today so maybe we can hit the goal tomorrow.
Also, this is the roughest rough draft I have ever written in my life. Just wanted to get that out there. Editing this is going to be a bitch and a half. No looking forward to that ish at all.
That said, the big NaNoWriMo theory is that Week Two is always horrible and that Week Three gets much easier so I am hopeful that if I get ahead I will be in Week Three mode that much sooner.
Some little tidbits:
- I may be terrible at writing romance. I don’t read a lot of romance so I have no idea.
- I read an article about the publishing industry today that pretty much crushed my will to live. It was basically like, whatever, no one ever publishes anything and when they do publish, it gets pirated as an ebook anyway. This is a terrible thing to read right before you decide to work on your novel. It’s like, your wasting your time, have fun.
- I wrote even though I feel incredibily sick and just wanted to go to bed and curl up under the covers. I feel like that makes me extra awesome.
- This latest chapter ended with the very dramatic death. . . of a cell phone.
- Exposition is so annoying. I am trying to spread out a ton of exposition over many many chapters so its not one big info dump but it means my characters keep getting distracted by shiney objects so that I can not explain everything. This is making them more ditzy than I would prefer they be. They are all “Gasp! You mean Bruce Waye is Batman? But doesn’t that mean Robin is… ooo is that a jelly donut?”
I am sick. I am tired. I am also sick and tired of how much work I have to do. November almost kills me every year but I feel like it makes me stronger in the end. Much work to do tomorrow but hopefully we can sneak in some more NaNo.
Until tomorrow, fellow NaNo-ers! (and NaNo supporters!)
