Dare I say I miss my passive aggressive Page-A-Day calendar?
So, last year, I bought myself the Cute Overload Page-A-Day calendar and got a free Page-A-Day calendar in my email as a thanks for purchasing. I selected For Women Who Do Too Much Page-A-Day Calendar which was possibly the worst page a day calendar ever conceived. You can read about my well documented hatred for this calendar here, here and here.

So, this year, I yet again picked up a Cute Overload calendar ($5 at Five Below!) because I like to use the discarded pages to leave my husband little cute animal notes because I am a dork. So, yet again, they promised me a free email calendar.
This time I opted for a Word-A-Day calendar thinking it might actually be useful in terms of writing, etc.
Here we are, 4 days into this new calendar and, you know what? I kinda miss the terrible passive aggressive sexist women one.
Not because it was good or helpful in any way because, lord knows, it wasn’t. But because it was always so reliably bad that it was always worth an eye roll or sometimes a good mocking laugh. I would look forward to those posts with a sarcastic “What gem are we going to get today?” and would read the terrible ones aloud to friends and family on the phone. The calendar took on a life of its own because of its very terrible-ness.
Words of the day are useful. But they are somehow much less interesting because they are useful.
I never thought I’d say this, but, so far, a terrible calendar is actually more entertaining than a good one.
But I still wanted a word-a-day calendar if for no other reason than to be like Sookie Stackhouse and try to use each word in my daily life.
(If you are now going, “Ew, she’s a True Blood fan!” don’t worry. I cannot stand the TV show. I just like the books for they are fun as heck.)
Oh and the fact that we are a full year from when I got that terrible calendar in the first place is mind blowing! 2009 just flew by!
Happy New Year!
