In which I fall in love with Google search for knowing my name & spelling it correctly

So remember how I was complaining yesterday about a news article (and it certainly isn’t the only one to ever do this) that spelled my name wrong?

Well, I went to set up Google Alerts for my misspelled name because it’s becoming such a frequent occurrence and Google made me feel much better about the whole thing.

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Thank you, Google. Thank you for knowing my name and doing your part to correct the spelling of it on behalf of spelling challenged people everywhere.

Hillary DePiano. It’s not exactly a challenging name to spell, people. Go ahead and copy and paste it from this very website if you are afraid you’ll mess it up.

I am not some kind of narcissistic freak who is obsessed with people knowing my name. But I have had friends, co-workers, doctor’s offices and now news articles misspelling my name in many creative ways for years. My mother-in-law only recently started spelling it correctly. So I guess I have a chip on my shoulder about this.

I mean, if its an email, my name is right there in front of you when you reply. Why wouldn’t you just double check or copy and paste it from my email to make sure you spelled it correctly? And I totally forgive you the first time but if I point it out to you and you STILL spell it wrong when we talk several times a week, that is very messed up.

What I am trying to say is, people with legitimately hard to spell names have my most epic sympathy.
