A brief history of the project called Asplode (aka my NaNoWriMo 2010 & 2011 novel)

Published by under Asplode,My NaNoWriMo

I’ve mentioned the project affectionately called Asplode many times now but I’ve never really told you anything about it. In fact, the #1 most asked question I got throughout both this and last year’s NaNoWriMo was, “No, seriously, what’s your book about?” because I could never give a good answer. So, to anyone who’s curious what this project is about, I’m going to try to explain. This could be long.

You’re going to find it funny that I rarely talk about this book on the blog after you read this because it’s an overwhelming majority of the writing I’ve done this year and pretty much all I think about. You see, guys… this book is the bane of my existence. I’m hoping to help you understand why by giving you a little history.  Continue Reading »

A word count update and some programming notes.

I haven’t been updating you on my yearly word count goals like I should be and that’s because I have a bunch of new eyeballs on the site thanks to NaNoWriMo and I wanted to build on that momentum by writing intelligent posts and not about yammering on about potatoes.

But, seriously, I’m really trying to focus the blog more so that you don’t have to be a regular reader to know what I’m talking about in any given post. And I’m trying to pepper these posts about my writing between more useful “article” type posts. Mostly, I want people to feel like they know what to expect when they come here (like they do when they visit The Whine Seller) which hasn’t always been the case. I’ve been working on this for most of the last year and since readership is up… I’m assuming it’s working! :-)

So, anyway, where were we? Oh, yeah. Word count. Continue Reading »

NaNoWriMo 2011 debriefed

“I can’t wait to not be writing this book anymore.” -Me, to my husband yesterday

I spent so much time this month being a good little ML and writing articles about NaNoWriMo that I didn’t actually write a single post about my own personal NaNo journey which is odd. Usually I can’t shut up about how my novel is going and I bombard you with little potato updates all month but I guess it’s a testament to how freaking busy I was that I never had the chance. This month zooooomed by so fast, it’s insane.

If you’ve been watching the little widget at the top of the blog, you know that I passed 50,000 words on Sunday, November 27th. But keeping in mind my firm belief in finishing the novel not just hitting 50k, I still powered through the last four chapters finally finishing the book tonight in our area’s online write-in. Now, my novel is actually MUCH longer than the just shy of 55,000 words I finished the month out with both because I started early and for other reasons I’ll cover in another post so my feelings at the end of this NaNo are mixed.
