OK, so for those of you just tuning in, I am racing to finish editing (and in some cases, totally re-writing) my previous novel so that it is finished before NaNoWriMo kicks off at midnight on Nov 1st. In case you were wondering, here is the progress so far.

5 / 40 chapters. 13% done!

There are 9 days left. Difficult, yes. I would have to edit/re-write about 4 chapters a day. I am going to try to put a serious dent in this tally tonight but, still daunting. But I am finding that the later chapters need much less work than the early chapters as I was more set in my idea of the plot then so I am hoping the going gets easier as I go instead of harder. but, of course, there are some later chapters for which the only existing draft is a handwritten outline I wrote on the bus back and forth from NYC years ago so those will need some heavy work.

Interesting trivia: The number 40 may not be entirely accurate. I say this because I have so many double numbered chapters and chapters with no numbers at all that, even though my numbering stops at 30 chapters, I suspect there are at least 10 more than that. Thus, my task may be slightly less daunting than it appears.

I’ll check back in at the end of the evening. Encouraging guesses of how many chapters I may finish are welcome. I shall read them after I am finished writing.
