Amazon recently debuted the ability for readers to lend their Kindle books with friends. I did a detailed overview of the new program here. But I thought I’d also take this opportunity to do a “just the part we authors/publishers care about” post over here. Chances are, if you are an author or publisher with a book available for Amazon’s Kindle, you really only have one question:
How do I turn lending on or off?
- Log into the Amazon Digital Text Platform (Amazon DTP).
- Click the “Action” button in the same row as the title you wish to edit and select “Edit rights, royalty and pricing” option from the resulting drop down.
- Under Content Rights and Royalty Option you’ll find Kindle Book Lending. If you want readers to be able to lend your Kindle books, check off the box. Uncheck if you don’t want lending enabled. Lending is enabled by default.
- Save and Publish. The title will disappear from the site for a few minutes while it is being updated but, when it returns, you will have lending enabled.
That’s it! Let me know if you have any questions or run into any issues and I’ll try to help out as best as I can.
