To be entirely truthful, I actually finished my Script Frenzy script a couple of days ago. As expected, it ended well short of 100 pages. This isn’t a huge problem, especially because it was a stage play, but I don’t feel like it’s fair to call myself a Script Frenzy winner unless I hit 100 pages. So I wrote 20 pages of character descriptions and other writing related directly to my script which I hope will inform the editing process. But even after all that creative stretching, I was still 10 pages behind.
Tonight I decided to set aside all my to do lists and my schedule of writing projects and to just work on whatever I felt like as a reward. I decided to work on… Wife Novel!
I know, I know. You probably thought I abandoned it, didn’t you? I didn’t, I swear. I actually took a break on it for going on two years because I hit a point where I didn’t actually think I was a good enough writer to pull off the story I wanted to tell. I decided to work on Mistress Novel for a while and then return to this project when I’d figured out how to solve its problems. My plan for tonight was just to poke at the story a bit and to write a random scene just for fun but I ended up totally re-outlining the entire project with a whole new plot that I think, hopefully, works better. It simultaneously exciting and depressing. Exciting because I may have finally figured out how to tell the story the way I wanted to tell it. Depressing because I’m going to have to scrap nearly everything I’ve written already. But that was sort of the point, the story wasn’t working in its current form.
As they say, we can rebuild it!
April has been very good for word count catching up. I’ll give you my current count at the end of this post, but I’m finally less than 30,000 words behind. On this topic, please don’t ever let me get this behind again.
I only have a week before the rest of my betas return their copies of Mistress Novel so I’m trying to cram as much work as possible into the next week so that I can drop everything and go back to Mistress Novel on May 2nd. The plan is to incorporate all the beta suggestions and edits within two weeks, finish up my synopsis and query and start shopping Mistress Novel before the start of June. Busy busy.
Anyway, today was a huge writing day and all of that with the voice program and I’m starting to lose my voice. I just had to tell you that I actually worked on the Wife Novel. I figured you’d all die of shock.
So, where were we?
The Script Frenzy website has been down for the last few days because of the great Amazon cloud crash so I haven’t been able to update my page count. Expect the winner’s badge and other Screnzy ending details whenever the site goes back up. Oh, and remind me to tell you about my fancy new “wax gloves”!
A wonderful Easter or Passover to you all! Any time of year that’s all about cute fuzzy bunnies and chocolate is all right by me. 😉
