A fan just pointed this out to me and I’m so thrilled they did because I had no idea this page even existed. Playscripts lists their top ten most popular adaptations on a page that’s linked right from the homepage and, what do you know, Three Oranges is #5 in the Top Ten.

When I saw this, my thought process went something like this:
- Oh my gosh! It’s in the Top Ten? That’s so cool!
- And it’s #5, too! I can’t believe it’s so high on the list. I’m insanely flattered.
- (with super villain lighting as I drum my fingers against each other) … I want to be higher.
Look at what’s ahead of us. Frank Capra? Jane Austen? Mark Twain? We can totally take those hacks.
We already left Homer, Bram Stoker, Louisa May Alcott, and J. M. Barrie in the dust. We got this.
This list seems to pull from the number of past productions because mostly all of those shows have been published longer than TLOTO so I don’t think we’d be as high as we are if it weren’t for our all the ridiculously awesome schools and theatre groups that have performed the show in the past.
So here’s what we need to do, Oranges fans. To paraphrase the boys of MST3K, keep circulating the oranges! Point any theatre people you know to the play’s Playscripts page where they can read it for free or just talk it up whenever possible. Maybe tweet about it on Twitter, share it on Facebook or “add” it on Google+ (a little social network humor there folks). Let’s see if we can climb this list with the power of laughter.
Mark Twain is officially on notice!
