My adaptation of Carlo Gozzi’s The Green Bird is done and I’m incredibly excited to share it with you. There’s a lot to debrief after this massive project but I want to get some business out of the way first. While I may someday pursue traditional publishing options, for now, I plan to retain the rights and distribute it myself. This is good news for schools and theatre groups because it means I can make deals on scripts and performance rights like I used to for Three Oranges in a way I can’t through Playscripts and that scripts will be much cheaper in both electronic and paper format. The downside, of course, is that I’ll be handling everything myself and I’m easily a billion times more busy now than I was when TLOTO came out so we’ll see whether I can keep up.
The eBook version will be available starting August 3rd is already available for pre-order at many retailers. Print editions will follow as soon as I can get them ready to go. There will also be super-secret less expensive acting editions that you’ll only be able to get through me when doing a bulk order or booking productions.
For the groups that have already contacted me about doing the show and anyone reading this and thinking about that very thing, I’ll be doing something special for the first few productions so there’s an advantage to being an early bird (pun intended, obviously). If you’re a teacher or director who’d like a free perusal copy for your group, please let me know and I’ll send it along. You can send any production rights requests through there as well if you’re ready to commit.
This play has been intimidating me for years because I’ve known that, if I did it right, it could easily become as big as TLOTO was and what if I screwed it up? But as I sit here with the finished script, the typical writer doubts and artist dithering aside, I just know you’re going to love it and I can’t wait until your actors get their hands on it and bring it to life on stage. And while I’ve been taking my time with this project to make sure I was doing it right, I also don’t see any reason to wait to get this play in the hands of people who want it as soon as possible.
Not long now!
