If you’re new to NaNoWriMo or if you’ve only ever participated online and haven’t gone to the in-person events, you’ve missed out on one of the coolest National Novel Writing Month traditions. Collectible stickers!
Every year, NaNoWriMo puts out a new set of awesome stickers. These are a hot commodity and having a set from every year you’ve participated is a matter of pride for many participants.
This year, there are four different designs (there were only two last year which will make it that much harder to score a complete set) and all feature quotes from NaNoWriMo Legend Chris Baty because it’s his last year with the program.
Where can you score one of these super cool stickers?
- You can purchase them from the OLL store. You’ll pay shipping but this guarantees you a complete set (not to mention that your purchase will support NaNoWriMo which is a non-profit event).
- Attend a write-in or other in-person events! Your local ML has a stash of them and s/he is authorized to hand them out at events. There’s only one catch! MLs have been asked to only give out one to a participant. Meaning, if your goal is to score all four, you’ll need to attend more than one event. MLs also only have a limited supply (Example: I have 50 stickers for an area of 2,500 people) so collecting them this way can be a fun treasure hunt.
- Visit a participating Come Write In location! NaNoWriMo is partnered with several libraries and indie bookstores throughout the world and many of these have been given a limited number of stickers for their displays. If you visit early enough in the month, it’s a great chance to score one. But, if you do see a stash at a library or bookstore, please don’t be greedy and take the whole stash. That’s not the spirit of this. No one likes a sticker jerk.
