A reader of The She-Ra Collector’s Inventory emailed me today for some help. Here is her email:

Hi I was wondering if you could give me some info to help me authenticate a Spinnerella doll I have bought from ebay. I want to make sure it is the genuine article as I have paid a lot of money for it. . . It is a loose doll with a reproduction outfit. The paint on it all looks very similar to the one in your book but I have noticed it has two holes in the back of the torso. Is it meant to have these? Or could this be another doll that has been painted to look like Spinnerella. I know that Flutterina has a similar torso mold. Or does the torso just have the holes as it has been made from the same mold as Flutterina and this is where the wings would attach. Is the spinning base meant to attach to the holes? I notice in the picture it looks as if it has some round nodules on the base. Can I send you some pics of the doll so you can have a look?

I told her to send along the pictures and I will post them when I get them. Unfortunately, I can’t be of a huge help here because I don’t actually have a loose Spinnerella (the one pictured in the book was taken by another collector) so I can’t check mine. From the description, it sounds like a repro but that is just a gut feeling and not based on looking at the figure.

Do any She-Ra collectors with a loose Spinnerella figure handy want to help out? Photos of the back of your legit Spinnerella, hints about telling a fake from a real one, whatever info you can share on this topic would be much appreciated.
