I am pleased to announce that The Love of Three Oranges has another country to add to its resume as the play premieres in Romania next week.
There will be two performances, February 26th, 2010 and March 3rd, 2010.
The play will be performed by a group of volunteers doing EVS (European Voluntary Service) in Romania working in a local high school in Santana/Arad. There are members in the group coming from Germany, Iceland and Latvia and the theatre club is for students aged 14-19. They are performing the play as a fundraiser for SOS houses in Santana.
I asked the organizers to give me a little info about their organization and the production for me to share with you:
We are 14 volunteers from all over the world dividend in 4 groups, living in Arad district. Me and 3 other volunteers live in a small town/village called Santana who is best known as “the village of orphanages.” In Santana there are 8 SOS houses and 3 German orphanages. We are living in one of the SOS houses with children who have disabilities. Generally the Project is all about us organizing after school activities in the local high school. They are extra-curricular activities
We are doing “Non-Formal Education” which means that there are no professional teachers involved, there are no examinations and participation is voluntary. They are all after school activities. Right now we have started 4 different workshops- music, theatre, English, sport, but after some time we plan to start different ones.About the fundraiser. We want to do this fundraiser to get money for the SOS houses for computers. But in reality we know that to get that much money won’t be possible in Romania, because the people here aren’t that generous when it come to charity. But still we will do as much advertising as we can and hopefully it’s going to be a great play and it will make the children very happy!:)
They also shared a great photo of their theatre crew:
UPDATE: Shortly after I posted this post, I got the following notice that they had to postpone the show:
I am very sorry to tell you that we had to postpone the play, because the teachers were on strike for 3 weeks here in Santana and it was a very stressful time for all of us (the volunteers and the teachers, because there was a possibility that we would have to go home, but now the situation is getting better) and we had no place where to rehearse for the play, but we are in very good progress now and we hope that we will be ready by 9th of May (European day) to perform it for a bigger audience.
