Participant-2014-Twitter-ProfileNaNoWriMo veterans, there’s something different with your profile this year and you’re going to want to take note. You may be missing victory or participation badges from past years!

Wrimo profiles used to have a field where you could input every year you’d participated and every year you’d won. This would add little badges to your profile proudly showing off every year you’d done or won NaNoWriMo. If you’ve looked at the newly relaunched 2014 site, you’ll notice that this now pulls directly from the novel projects you set up on the site. In other words, if you participated or won before 2007, all that info, and those badges, are gone.

There’s good news and bad news here.

First, the bad news…

  • You’re going to have to manually go in and add a novel project for every past year. (I’ll explain how to do that below.)
  • NaNoWriMo didn’t keep any record of your past participation so you’ll have to rely on your memory (or your blog or your Twitter feed or Facebook wall or old Tumblr posts, etc) to fill this in.
  • You’re required to not only list the title but also the date you won and your final word count for the times you won which, um, yeah, I don’t remember any of that. (I ended up just making it up!)
  • All of this is kind of a pain…

But there’s good news…

Once you go through this admittedly annoying process, you should never have to do it again since it will stay set-up in the system every new year that you sign up from now on. And it will also give you a neat little record of your NaNoWriMo history all in one place.

If you’ve only ever participated after 2007, this doesn’t concern you, so there’s nothing to worry about. If you’re an old timer like me, however, you’re going to want to go in and set-up those prior NaNo novels using these steps:

You can add in information about all of your past NaNoWriMo novels, from 1999 to today, on the site. To do so,

  1. Log into your account
  2. Go to “My Novels” under the My NaNoWriMo menu.
  3. Find the year for the novel you’d like to enter.
  4. Click the “Enter It In!” link under the year.
  5. Add in any information you’d like to include. You can be as detailed (or not!) as you like.
