Luggage without wheels

As I mentioned, this has been a weird summer. In addition to some personal chaos, I’ve been travelling much more than usual. There were several business trips, personal trips and finally a vacation that we just returned home from last night. And while I was home for a few days in between all this planes, trains and automobiles action, I really only had time to do the highest priority work before zooming off to the next location. I am not a person who normally has to travel a lot at all, let alone for business, so I’m really not used to this pace.

Even when travel is for something nice, like a vacation, the whole process of travelling itself really takes a lot out of you. The little stresses and aggravations all add up. Then you get home to all the work that’s piled up while you were gone and it’s just like, ugh. Especially when you know you’ve only got a few days before you have to do it all over again for the next trip.

But while I am insanely behind on everything (and have, of course, made delusional promises to everyone about how I’ll be catching up on everything this week now that I’m back) it has given me a real appreciation for good old home sweet home. It doesn’t matter how nice the hotel is, there’s something about snuggling into your own bed, surrounded by all your own stuff that makes you feel like all is right with the world.

Every time I’ve come back home, I’ve had the same thought. Why do I ever leave my house? It’s so nice and comfy! Travel’s got nothing on the pleasures of being in your own little nest with the people you care about most.

This latest homecoming was made all the sweeter by the fact today, our first full day back home together, is my husband and I’s anniversary. We just made dinner and stayed in which seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the pleasures of home.

I know the next trip is out there but, for now, I’m delighting in the fact that I don’t have to leave my house for quite a few days in a row.

What about you? Do you enjoy travel or would you rather just stay home?
