I don’t share every review of The Love of Three Oranges because there are just too many of them but, every now and then, one catches my eye and this one by Margaret McNamara may be my new favorite. It’s just peppered with jokes and references from the show and is a review of The Episcopal Academy’s Cappies winning production of The Love of Three Oranges.

You can read the original here but below are some of my favorite parts:

An epidemic of laughter
By Margaret McNamara, Archmere Academy

“The Love of Three Oranges” is your typical “fairy tale on crack.”

Episcopal Academy performed Carlo Gozzi’s “The Love of Three Oranges.” The show is a punny slapstick comedy about a disconsolate hypochondriac named Prince Tartaglia who is cursed by the evil “wi-otch”, Fata Morgana (dun dunn dunnnnn). As a result, he goes on a fruitful (pun intended) quest to find the love of his life: three succulent oranges.

The cast and crew “The Love of Three Oranges” were full of lovable and energetic characters. Each member on stage contributed to the fun and comedic atmosphere that infused Episcopal’s black box theater.

If laughter is contagious, then the lead actors of “The Love of Three Oranges” caused an epidemic. Megan Kilcullen portrayed the sassy and comedic narrator. She proved to be a dynamic actress as a magician, Where’s Waldo, and a medieval court jester. Paige Dunlap (Prince Tartaglia) played a hypochondriac who wears footy pajamas (with ducks might I add) and falls in love with citrus fruit. Maria Burke, playing Truffaldino was a dynamic “milkshake of comedic delight” especially in her slow motion action scenes.

Ultimately, the cast and crew of Episcopal Academy’s “The Love of Three Oranges” left the audience “happily ever in laughter.”

There’s also a great gallery of production photos here.

Great work to everyone involved!
