I madly loved Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events series. One of the running themes of the book is that the oldest Baudelaire child, Violet, can’t think properly unless her hair is tied back (she’s an inventor). I love this detail because I find the feeling of hair on the back of my neck to be VERY distracting so I always tie it back when I sit down to work. I can have my hair down all night if I’m out with friends but when I sit down to work, I always hit the point when it starts to drive me insane and I have to tie it back. This process has always called to mind Violet tying her hair back in the books.

Anyway, I saw the movie version of the books in theatres and have never watched it again since then since it wasn’t very good. So I mostly forgot it was a thing that even existed until I saw the little animated GIF to the right on Tumblr a few weeks ago. It’s the movie Violet trying back her hair, about to get down to business.

And, while I feel no particular connection to the movie, it gives me joy. It says to me, let’s do this.

And do it we shall.
